Ready

According to astrologyzone.com, friday was supposed to be the best day of my year. The explanation is all very scientific, of course, but it's due mostly to venus and uranus meeting in pisces and moving into my house of true love (probably the basement). I think mars factors in somewhere, too. It was raining for the most part, and there was a transportation strike. I skipped the gym, and aside from doing four lessons, failed in doing anything particularly productive. Thats it, then. ive peaked. I'm going to spend the next three-hundred-six days curled up next to a steady rotation of elliott smith albums, waiting for 2011. The "best day of the year” prediction sparked an interesting conversation with ronde that night. Hed wanted to celebrate finishing a big project for work, and I was ashamed at how id passed the best day of the year; so we drank tea and watched the san remo festival on Rai 1. His ideal day is remarkably similar to mine: wake up in bed beside someone nice, have a good coffee, unfiltered creation, spontaneity, art, fun, sex, and the sort of conversation that's as profound as it is easy, all while nicely-dressed. Its all fantasy, of course, in its own way. Anyway i went home. J. called me at ten-to-one after i was already in bed. Karaoke on the naviglio pavese. So i dressed, put in my contacts, and got a beer at the colonne on my way down to the canals. I met some guys from england and we sang ‘wonderwall’ after id finished my negroni. On saturday morning i woke up super early. I was hungover, and had my coffee, did some situps at the gym. I hope that you understand italian, because the answer to that is ‘yes, definitely.’ We went to a steve mccury exhibit and while i waited in line he got panzerotti from luini, next to prada. Then we people-watched at duomo (its fashion week), went back to my place, and downloaded the songs from last night. We had a beer and from the balcony we saw the sun set behind the alps, which of course led to third base before the metro closed at 12,05. and there it is. february 27th.
Aside from how you define ‘unfiltered creation’ and ‘sex,’ it seems like it was a pretty good day, much better than ‘the best day of my year.’ a hipster would cry lack of originality, but given my recent (wine-induced) conversations with the creative process, its all ive got. the thing is, though, is that its pretty much just a standard saturday, the only difference being that the sun finally came out and that i had a chance to wear my bowling shoes and sunglasses instead of boots and an umbrella. the moral of the story is that right now in this moment things are pretty good in general even on a sort of boring day. it takes perspective. theres only one element missing from achieving my ideal day on a regular basis: creative productivity. given the people i know, theres no excuse. various creatives in this house are busting my ass, and i appreciate it. i have a very important play to write, and a handful of willing people to give me advice. i have everything i need, except the ability to let go of my fear of making unabashed shit. dare to fail and all that. tomorrow will probably be another ideal day.

Explosive

Born in the land of mozzarella, pizza and mandolins, when I was Five I chose my future.
It appeared in front of me with a toy, “gira la moda”, double present for a birthday.
Actually I already used to create dresses for me and my Barbies, using the most unexpected materials and I, enraptured, observed my grandmother with her sewing machine, helping her, stitching some dresses.
I helped her with the choice of the material and, even today, I think this is a very exciting phase of the production. Touching them, testing them and, why not, sniffing them.
Since then it came my strong decision of being a real manager in fashion (I have seen “Working Girl” too many times, dreaming to be like Sigourney Weaver but not the teasing of Melanie Griffith).
20 years later, here I am: for 3 years and a half I’ve had my own two brands LittleBlackDress and LBD Alessia Caliendo, I’m a real entrepreneur in fashion world, the main designer of the collection that I create, even with emergent designer, both Italian and international, the creator of the concept store LittleBlackDress, datum point in the South of Italy, the promoter and organizer of cultural events in my land (that of mozzarella, pizza and mandolins) that I love too much and that I’m not going to leave, even if I’ve been offered great occasions.
If I don’t commit myself to make my region known, not also for the pizza and mozzarella (and other things that I don’t cite), but also for the innovation, the design, the cultural events, and if I don’t give a hope to the young people that are forced to emigrate to have their formation recognized and to live in a more stimulating reality, what kind of life is it?

Explosiva

Toccarli , testarli e perchè no? Annusarli.

Kaos

The day I managed to laugh at myself I felt a bit better, but I don't remember exactly when it happened...

Kaos

Dreamer

In May 2000 I was 15 and lived in Barcelona. I loved watching sports, cut out newspaper articles, and even put together whole books cataloged neatly according to the event and its players. My favorite sport was Formula 1. It embodied risk, luck, skill... essentially, as I would discover over the years, the components of life. It stands without saying that I dreamed of becoming a sports journalist, until one day my father’s boss, aware of my passion for this sport, took me to see the Spanish Grand Prix in paddocks of Benetton, in short, a dream that had come true. Not only was it a weekend of great emotion, but revelation. From the box I photographed every detail, watching the enchanting work of mechanics and engineers, printing in my mind their faces full of emotion, tension, fatigue. And then, it occurred to me this was my calling that sports journalism would never do for me, but I was a good photographer and I had found out what I want to become: a woman engineer.

May 2010. 10 years have passed since then. I became an engineer, not a Formula 1 racer as I would have imagined. Reality is not as I’d dreamt, being a woman engineer is not easy, just as I’d been told many times before; I never believed it, though, assuming that over my parents’ generation prejudices such as this had passed. But I keep taking pictures of sporting events, fashion, my friends, myself. I also continue to read, and to write my blogs, with the idea of finding my dream of one day figuring out how to unite all my passions.

Sognatrice
